Great Idea, but....

:
Unfortunately, you can't just download, listen and identify. This app installation is a bit complicated and requires other purchases to identify birds by song. On the developer's website, there is a whole FAQ for "before you buy." I should have done more research, but it is a free app. I probably expected too much.

I purchased it because there is a bird outside my window singing constantly, hidden in the trees. I am not a birder, but just wondered what this bird was. I thought this app might help, but it immediately required prior knowledge -- I am in the smack-dab central US. I don't know if I'm east or west, etc.

This might be an app better suited for someone who is already very knowledgable in birding and just needs a reference, but I did not find it helpful for just a common, quick look up for someone with zero birding experience or knowledge. From the reviews, it looks like people either already know much about birding and love the app or they don't and can't use it. I fall into the latter category. I believe this is a common occurrence in developing.

I do have a suggestion. One feature the developer might consider adding would be location services. That way, the app would automatically identify where you are and narrow down the birds from the location, rather than relying on traditional models of identification (east, west north south). That would make the initial step much easier.
